2024 Nineteenth Annual Dialog on Sustainability: Ecosystem Restoration (Kansas, USA)

On July 27, 2024, project members represented by Prof. Valentina Pidlisnyuk, NPD (UJEP), PhD student Robert Ato Newton (UJEP), and Dr. Aigerim Mamirova (KazNU) participated as invited speakers in the virtual webinar “2024 Nineteenth Annual Dialog on Sustainability: Ecosystem Restoration – The Use of Biochar” hosted by Kansas State University (KSU), Manhattan, USA. The webinar, organized by the Consortium for Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability (CESAS) and led by Prof. Larry E. Erickson (KSU, USA) with the support of Gerry Snyder (KSU, USA). Oral reports of project members focused on the benefits of using biochar to improve soil health, its impact on plant physiological parameters and phytoremediation potential, and testing biochar using plant model organisms.

The event was attended by 26 participants, including speakers, facilitators, and sponsors. Notable attendees included Theodor Jojola (Indigenous Design and Planning Institute, University of New Mexico), Blase Leven (Center for Hazardous Substance Research, KSU, USA), and Divine Tarla (KSU, USA), among others. The webinar concluded with a dialog on ecosystem restoration needs, emphasizing the specific requirements of Native American lands and Ukraine.
