May 23-26, 2025: 5th International Scientific Conference “Chemical Technology and Engineering – 2025” (Lviv, Ukraine)
PhD students from the NULES team Artem Medkov and Anastasiia Husieva participated in the 5th International Scientific Conference “Chemical Technology and Engineering – 2025”. The event held on May 23 – 26, 2025 and was hosted by the Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukraine. The conference provided a valuable opportunity for young researchers to present their findings to an international academic audience, receive constructive feedback, and contribute to the broader discussion on sustainability and soil recovery strategies in post-conflict environments.
PhD student Artem Medkov delivered a presentation “Characterization of Miscanthus Biomass Waste-Derived Biochar Produced by Oxidative Pyrolysis: Implications for Carbon Sequestration”. His talk addressed the physicochemical properties of biochar produced from Miscanthus biomass waste by pyrolysis and its potential role in long-term carbon stabilization and enhancement of the soil quality. PhD student Anastasiia Husieva delivered a presentation entitled “The Impact of Biochar Amendments and Biostimulant on Soil Nematodes and Biomass Yield of Miscanthus vegetated on Poor-Nutritionally Soils at the Post-Military Areas in Vorzel, Kyiv Region.” Her presentation illustrated how biochar and biostimulants affect nematode community structure and improve the growth performance of Miscanthus × giganteus on degraded soils impacted by military activity.
The extended abstracts of both presentations were published in the peer-reviewed conference proceedings, supporting the dissemination and recognition of these research findings within the scientific community.
