Introduction of NATO G6094 to Prof. Zagirnyak, Rector of Kremenchuk Mykhailo Ostrohradkyi National University, Ukraine

On April 11, 2025 Professor Mykhailo Zagirnyak, Rector of Kremenchuk Mykhailo Ostrohradkyi National University, Ukraine attended the Faculty of Environment at UJEP with an introductory visit. He met with NDP G6094 Prof. Valentina Pidlisnyuk, and members of UJEP project’s team: Dr. Josef Trogl, Dr. Karim Al Souki, PhD students Robert Ato Newton and Abdulmannan Rouhani. During the meeting Dr. Al Souki introduced the field research at the post-military site in Chomutov where the Miscanthus plantation was established in 2021. Currently the plantation is under multiyear monitoring on influence of varied soil amendments (biochar, digestate, sewage sludge and paper sludge) to the bio parameters and harvest value of M×g. NPD Pidlisnyuk introduced the processing of M×g biomass harvested at the military soil to energy and bioproducts: insulation materials and pulp.

Dr. Jiri Orava, Head of the Department of the Environmental Chemistry &Technology, UJEP introduced the Experimental base of the faculty, including two high resolution modern microscopes which can be used to research the properties of biochar and microbial carrier as elements of the Advanced M×g Phytotechnology. Dr. Orava overviewed the on-going FZP scientific projects including Horizon project focused on developing the new materials for the internal parts of lithium batteries targeted to improve their safety. During the followed discussion the possible ways for cooperation were proposed. Dr. Orava and Prof. Zagirnyak agreed to continue dialog on establishing the mutual scientific collaboration on researching the different solid materials produced in Ukraine at the Lab facilities of UJEP.
