December 5, 2024: Project Progress Meeting 6

On December 5, 2024, a Progress meeting 6 within Milestone 3 of SPS MYP G6094 “Mitigation of climate change through advanced phytotechnology for military lands” held at UJEP in the mixed form: UJEP participants were at the event in persons, members of other teams were connected on-line. Altogether 18 individuals participated in the meeting including representatives of UJEP, TVHNPU, NULP, NULES, RMC, HA, and linkage institution KazNU.

At the beginning NPD Prof. Valentina Pidlisnyuk announced the results of the on-line consultations done at the end of September-beginning of October, 2024 on specification the teams’ tasks to ensure the achieving of project’s indicators and deliverables. Thereafter Mgr. Blanka Cerna announced the request to submit project’s budget report more frequently – once per three months, to ensure accuracy of the budget reporting at the Budget Report 3. Dr. Vitalii Stadnik overviewed the general request to the teams to submit materials to the future film about the project.

In the main part of the meeting representatives of the teams presented activities since the beginning of Mil3. Specifically, PPD Andryi Hertz and Dr. Oksana Horyn, TVHNPU presented results on testing the ash (derived from the contaminated Miscanthus biomass) in Miscanthus full year vegetation cycle. Co-Director Vitalii Standik, NULP reported about mission to Dolyna and maintaining the Miscanthus field there which may be considered as a substitution field for HUB in case the war situation near Kyiv will be worse in 2025. He mentioned about the delay in equipment’s supply caused by difficulties in logistic due to increasing bombing of Ukrainian territory. Dr. Tatyana Stefanovska, NULES reported about the state with two Vorzel Miscanthus fields, which are planned to be the illustrative case study for HUB. She reported about recent changing in the management of Vorzel local authority which may request additional consultations with HUB establishment in 2025. Dr. Mariya Marinova, RMC informed about the continuation the research on valorization the contaminated ash and bio-oil. Prof. William Haden Chomphosy, HC presented the framework of the literature review on Economic Determinants of Phytotechnology Adoption and introduced pull of questions to proposed Q-methodology approach to estimate the attitude to the Advanced M×g Phytotechnology. Survey has to be provided in Ukraine in spring-summer 2025. Members of the UJEP team Hana Burdova introduced results of microbial communities’ content in the oil-contaminated soil with and without M×g vegetation. Abdulmannan Rouhani, UJEP presented the preliminary results on one vegetation Lab testing of wood ash in M×g Advanced phytotechnology.

Summarizing, NPD Prof. Valentina Pidlisnyuk overviewed results of the 12th Miscanthus International Conference in Germany (2 reports and 2 proceedings were delivered there from participants of G6094) and informed about 3 newly IF published articles. The next Project Progress Meeting 7 is scheduled for February 21, 2025.
