G6094 Results Presented to International Students of BIP Erasmus at UJEP

On 28 October 2026, Professor Valentina Pidlisnyuk (NPD, UJEP) presented the research achievements and results of the NATO SPS G6094 project to students participating in the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) hosted by UJEP. The BIP is an Erasmus+ initiative combining short-term physical mobility at partner universities with collaborative online learning. This year’s programme, led by Dr. Karim Al Souki (UJEP), Dr. Cristina Vita (University of Porto, Portugal), and Dr. Aritz Burges (JUWIA-Lille, France), was hosted by UJEP, with 18 students represented partner universities.

During the first part of the presentation, professor Pidlisnyuk introduced the concept and practical applications of advanced Miscanthus × giganteus phytotechnology for the rehabilitation and sustainable management of conflict-affected military sites, post-mining areas, and brownfields. Particular attention was given to research conducted within G6094, including the application of organic soil amendments to improve soil quality and plant performance, as well as the role of microbial and PGR treatments in enhancing the effectiveness of M×g phytotechnology for biomass production.

In the second part of the presentation, opportunities for valorising M×g biomass through the production of sustainable bioproducts, including mulch, animal bedding, bioenergy, building and insulation materials, and paper, were overviewed.

The programme concluded with a field visit to two M×g plantations established on post-military and post-mining land, as well as brownfield site in the Chomutov area. The students had the opportunity to observe the experimental plantations and learn about the ongoing monitoring of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) dynamics conducted within the G6094 project.
