Monitoring of the Miscanthus plantations in Vorzel, Ukraine, state as for November 2024

On November 12, 2024, Dr. Vitalii Stadnik and Dr. Martyn Sozanskyi (LPNU, Ukraine) attended two research Miscanthus plantations established in 2023 and 2024 years at the post-military land in Vorzel, Kyiv region, Ukraine. At plantation 2023, industrially produced biochar Ideale as element of Advanced Miscanthus phytotechnology has been tested. At plantation 2024 biochar derived from Miscanthus waste by oxidated pyrolysis is tested as element of Advanced Miscanthus phytotechnology. Miscanthus biochar was received in the farmer apparatus, temperature of pyrolysis – 600 ℃, duration of the process – 4 hours. At both plantations two different doses of biochar (5 and 10%) are tested. Dr. Vitalii Stadnik and Dr. Martyn Sozanskyi did respect photo documentation.

The change in the content of soil’s Organic Carbon during Miscanthus multiyear vegetation has been monitored at plantations. In total, 56 soil samples from two depths: 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm (28 samples to each depth) were collected and passed for measuring to TVHNPU, Ternopil, Ukraine. In addition, 12 soil samples from the depth 0-30 cm were collected for measuring soil microbial communities; and 12 soil samples were collected to measure soil clay content – this parameter is requested in LCA calculation of Advanced Phytotechnology.
