November 3-4, 2025: Participation of UJEP team in the Second Summit on Biofuels and Bioenergy (Prague, Czech Republic)

The team from UJEP participated in the Second Summit “Biofuels and Bioenergy”, organized by the C2P Forum, USA, on November 3–4, 2025, in Prague, Czech Republic. Three reports were presented at the event, showcasing the results of the ongoing NATO SPS MYP G6094 and related background projects.

Prof. Valentina Pidlisnyuk (NDP) delivered a presentation “Scaling Restoration Benefits of Miscanthus × giganteus-based Advanced Phytotechnology: A Sustainable Strategy for Remediating Military-Contaminated Conflict Zones and Biomass Value Chain Application.” The report was co-authored by Andriy Herts and Oleksandr Kononchuk (TVHNPU), Aigerim Mamirova (KazNU), Abdulmannan Rouhani, Robert Ato Newton, Karim Suhail Al Souki, Josef Trogl (all UJEP), Pavlo Shapoval and Vitalii Stadnik (NULP), Tatyana Stefanovska (NULES), Sergey Usťak and Roman Honzík (CARC).

Dr. Josef Trogl delivered a presentation “From Petroleum-Contaminated Soil to Biofuels: Case Studies of Miscanthus × giganteus.” The report was co-authored by Hana Burdová, Zdeňka Kwoczynski, Diana Polanská Nebeská, Karim Suhail Al Souki, Valentina Pidlisnyuk, Robert Ato Newton, Sylvie Kříženecká, Hana Auer Malinská, and Dominik Pilnaj (all UJEP), Aigerim Mamirova (KazNU), Barbora Grycová, Kateřina Klemencová, Pavel Leštinský (TUO), Sergey Usťak and Roman Honzík (CARC).

PhD student Abdulmannan Rouhani delivered an oral presentation “Valorisation of Wood Biomass Ash: Soil Improvement, Waste Diversion, and Miscanthus × giganteus-based Phytoremediation,” co-authored by Valentina Pidlisnyuk and Karim Suhail Al Souki.

During the conference, Prof. Pidlisnyuk, PhD student Rouhani, and PhD student Basma met with Dr. Adrian Chun Minh Loy (The University of Melbourne, Australia) to discuss potential scientific collaboration in the field of carbon sequestration evaluation.

The conference concluded with the Young Researcher Award, which was presented to PhD student Abdulmannan Rouchani for his report and the team of Hana Burdová and Zdeňka Kwoczynski,UJEP for the presentation “From Phytoremediation to Functional Biochar: Valorisation of Miscanthus × giganteus Biomass Grown on Marginal and Diesel-Contaminated Soil.”

The Third Summit “Biofuels and Bioenergy” is scheduled for October 12–13, 2026 in London, UK.
