Public lecture of PPD Dr. Andriy Hertz at the Roundtable “Science in Action: The Role of Researchers in Overcoming the Challenges of War”, Ternopil, Ukraine
On May 19, 2025 Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University, Ukraine hosted a Roundtable “Science in Action: The Role of Researchers in Overcoming the Challenges of War”. The event was dedicated to the role of research & outreach in overcoming the consequences of a full-scale war to the environment and society in Ukraine along and the impact of Russian aggression to the scientific communities.
Dr. Andriy Herts, PPD delivered to the participants of Roundtable the lecture “Revitalization of the military contaminated lands in Ukraine”. He introduced the NATO SPS MYP Project G6094 and specifically the Miscanthus × giganteus Phytotechnology which are developing by the multination teams involved in the project. Specifically, he overviewed approaches used for revitalization of the post-military areas in Vorzel, Ukraine and Chomutov, the Czech Republic, and discussed the new TVHNPU methodology used for testing biochar and ash as components of the Phytotechnology.
The roundtable became a platform for reflection on current challenges Ukrainian scientists are faced to, stimulated the exchange of ideas among the scientific community and stakeholders, and strengthened the foundation for the further research initiatives.
